Statement from the RI Arts Council on the passing of Roger Mandle

Randall Rosenbaum, Executive Director, R.I. State Council on the Arts, made the following statement on the loss of Roger Mandle, a prominent figure in the arts and former longtime president of the Rhode Island School of Design.

“On behalf of the Rhode Island arts community, I would like to express my sorrow over Roger’s passing. Roger’s enormous influence in the arts has and will continue to be felt well beyond Rhode Island’s borders. In Rhode Island, Roger was deeply committed to the arts. He spoke out – passionately – about the importance of the local arts community. He testified on numerous occasions to the General Assembly about support for the arts in the Ocean State. We express our deepest sympathy to his wife Gayle and his children Luke and Julia on their loss.”

RISCA Grant Applications Now Open!

Our spring grant cycle applications are now open! They are due by 11:59pm on Monday, April 2, 2018.

Grant categories include: Project Grants for Individuals, Fellowships in Crafts, Film & Video, Fiction, Poetry, Play and Screenwriting, Photography, and Three Dimensional Art, Arts Access, Projects in Education, Arts in Healthcare Projects, Big Yellow School Bus, and Open Artist Studio Tour. 

We have a bunch of grant workshops! We are also hosting drop in grant writing support in partnership with Providence Community Library. This is unstructured time, with laptops and computers available, for you to actually write your grant application. RISCA staff will be present to read drafts, answer questions, give technical support, and help with your budgets. We’ll be at Mt. Pleasant Library on Tuesday, March 13th from 3-8pm; Rochambeau Library on Thursday, March 29th, from 3-8pm; and South Providence Library on Saturday, March 31st from 11am-5pm.

RISCA Grant Deadline Tomorrow!

Just a reminder that your Arts Access Grant, Arts in Healthcare, Fellowships in Choreography, Drawing & Printmaking, Music Composition, New Genres, and Painting, Project Grants for Education, Project Grants for Individuals, Cultural Facilities, Design Innovation Grants, and Teaching Arts Roster applications are due tomorrow! Make sure you hit submit by 11:59pm on Monday, October 2nd. If you have any last minute questions, we will be by our phones and emails on Monday until 4pm.

As a bonus, submissions to have your work shown at TF Green Airport are also due by the end of the day Monday, for all exhibitions in 2018. Click here for more information- and we extended the deadline by a day, so don’t panic when you see October 1st.
