Providence ¡CityArts! for Youth seeks Director of Education

The Director of Education will be the educational leader at CityArts, responsible for planning and implementing multidisciplinary performing and visual arts programs at three public middle schools and in our community studios on Providence’s southside.

Responsible for the development and alignment of all curriculum, evaluation, and programming for youth and teaching artists through our AmeriCorps program at schools and in community. Assure that classes, workshops, and public programs align with AmeriCorps and CityArts’ social justice, anti-poverty, youth development, and community art making values. Responsible for hiring, managing, and recruiting teaching artists. This program will collaborate with the new Turnaround Arts Project through the PPSD. An essential function will be to coordinate with CityArts and PPSD staff to communicate and advertise programs that are models of best practice.

A strong candidate will be an excellent writer with an MA or MAT in arts education, and experience working in urban public schools. Experience in school-based and community-based arts programs (particularly at the elementary and middle school levels), knowledge of National Core Art Standards, mentoring teachers and teaching artist teams, preferred. Experience working with AmeriCorps programs and budgets, is a plus. This is a one-year grant funded position, with possibility for renewal, pending funding.
