How to respond to community support for your project question

In your project budget, you already shared with the panel your cash income sources, as well as the cash expenses associated with your project. The purpose of this question is to let the panel know if members of your community are supporting your project with non-cash donations of materials, space or services. Non-cash donations from people not directly involved with a project are considered in-kind donations.

In addition to reducing cash expenses, in-kind donations are great way to cultivate support for your project within your community. They also tell a panel that your community values your project.

Let’s say for your project, the Community Arts Center donated rehearsal and performance space, and a local restaurant call the Neighborhood Cafe donated food for your opening night reception. An example answer could be:

We are receiving a donation of space from the Community Arts Center for five evenings of rehearsal and two evenings of performance. The Neighborhood Cafe will be donating food  and beverage for our opening night reception.

Or

Donation of space from the Community Arts Center for five evenings of rehearsal and two evenings of performance.
-Donation of food and beverage from the Neighborhood Cafe.

If you know the cash value of in-kind donations, you can include that as well. This is not required, and estimates from the person or entity providing the in-kind donation are fine to use. For instance, if you knew this information, an example answer could be:

We are receiving a donation of space from the Community Arts Center for five evenings of rehearsal and two evenings of performance, valued at $1,000. The Neighborhood Cafe will be donating food  and beverage for our opening night reception, valued at $250.
