Balliamo Dance Collective In Memorium of 2020 $2,000 Balliamo requests $3,000 to present a modern dance performance at the WaterFire Arts Center focused on Jewish mourning traditions. Artists include 5 company dancers, 2 guest choreographers a violinist and a poet. The show will then be performed in smaller communities throughout Rhode Island. Boys & Girls Clubs of Warwick Mentoring Through Music $2,100 BGCW’s music program gives middle school youth access to affordable and accessible musical opportunities unavailable anywhere else locally. Bristol Art Museum Vanishing, Rising and Burning $3,000 In spring 2022, Bristol Art Museum will curate 2 coinciding art exhibits–guest artists' work in the Museum and artwork by Mount Hope High School students in the Rogers Free Library. Cape Verdean American Community Development Islands in the City Art Class $3,000 Cape Verdean American Community Development (CACD) will sponsor a painting class (Vibranti y Viva/Vibrant and Alive) and sculpture class (Cape Verdean Expressions in Form) especially targeting low-income teens in spring 2022. Chamber Orchestra of Barrington at St. John's Chamber Concerts as Community Outreach $1,500 The Chamber Orchestra of Barrington at St. John's is comprised of committed professional and amateur musicians from throughout New England, and this grant will support free chamber concerts performed in the community between January 1, 2022 and June 30, 2022 with Community String Project and the Mount Hope Farmers Market in Bristol, RI. Choral Collective of Newport County NCYC Middle School Ensemble in Newport $2,000 The Choral Collective of Newport County is seeking support to build and grow the Newport County Youth Chorus Middle School Ensemble (grades 5-8) by adding a new section for Newport students. Empowerment Factory Free Art Programs for Kids $3,000 The Empowerment Factory will partner with RISCA teaching artists to offer its “Art in the Park” and “Nature Drawing” after school art programs to RI elementary youth. These virtual and in-person/outdoor programs were designed around COVID-19 CDC guidelines last year. Creativity Kits with art supplies and bilingual workbooks are included. Friends of Linden Place Linden Place Creative Writing Residency $1,000 Linden Place will create an annual residency program to support 10 creative writers from Rhode Island. Writers will interpret an aspect of Linden Place’s history in their works and will have access to the buildings, grounds, and archives during writing sessions. JDP Theatre Company Junior Stage Production of "Seussical Jr." $2,000 JDP Theatre Co. (JDP) plans to produce a musical theatre production of "Seussical Jr." in January 2022 with actors between the ages of 7-15. This show is a part of JDP's "Junior Stage" programming. Little Compton Community Center "Our Town": a portrait exhibit $1,500 Our Town is a powerful portrait exhibit of Little Compton residents painted over a 1 year period. It documents the faces of those who define the town and thus tell its story. The project goes beyond the 'summer reputation' to portray those who make up the diverse fabric of town life: farmers, veterans, students, mechanics, clerks, nurses, and more. McAuley Ministries Arts at McAuley House $2,000 Arts at McAuley House is an enrichment program offered by South Providence resident and Expressive Arts Therapist Kathy King to guests of McAuley House – a meal site, food pantry, and source for basic needs assistance in Providence. Newport String Project Newport String Quartet Community Residency $2,000 The Newport String Project (NSP) will provide free lessons in violin, viola, and cello to 40 students at the MLK Center, the Florence Gray Center and at the East Bay MET School. Oasis International ARTS EXPANSION THROUGH OUR HEARTS AND SOUL $2,000 OI has a varied history of sponsoring artistic programs for the youth community annually during spring break to divert them from violence. This program will engage youth to experience soulful ways to express themselves through mediums of art to include storytelling, painting murals, working with metal, and drums, final pieces will be displayed. PC Galleries at Providence College Contemporary Art Connections: Masterclass Led by Sheida Soleimani $2,000 For PCG’s Contemporary Art Connections series, local artist Sheida Soleimani will teach a masterclass on building props and sets for still-life photography. While open to ages 12 and up, the masterclass is designed for teens. All equipment and supplies are provided, and participants take home a large print of a photograph they create in the class. Providence Ballet Theatre Spring 2022 Repertory Performance $1,925 Providence Ballet Theatre will present a Spring 2022 Repertory Performance at an outdoor venue. The project will present select pieces that have been performed over the last 10 years showcasing the best of PBT repertory along with the opportunity for Providence Public Schools to attend free of charge. Providence Community Library From Paper to Puppets $2,500 Artist Cathren Housley will hold ten virtual programs through Smith Hill Library. Programs will focus on making puppets and a stage, as well as connecting the power of art and storytelling. ReFocus Mixed Media Art Program for Adults with Disabilities $1,500 ReFocus requests $3,000 to support art classes and excursions for adults with disabilities in the Providence metro area. The Mixed Media Art Program will guide adults with disabilities through various sensory projects and artistic experiences, with an emphasis on encouraging individual creativity. RI Women's Choreography Project Rhode Island Women's Choreography Project $1,000 The Rhode Island Women’s Choreography Project (RIWCP) produces an annual public dance performance as a platform for 8 female-identifying choreographers to present new work. RISE on Broadway A Grimm Mystery $1,500 RISE will present its annual "RISE Jr." children's theater project in February of 2022. Tenderloin Opera Company Tenderloin Opera Company Season 12! $1,500 Tenderloin Opera Company is a homeless advocacy music and theater group based in Providence, RI whose members include currently and formerly homeless people and homeless advocates. TRYCAPS CREATIVE ART PROGRAM Arts And Healing In Action $1,500 A Mental Health Educator, An Artist, and youth of the TRY CAPS plan to engage senior citizens of Saint Martin De Porres in art therapy exercises to cope with stress and anxiety caused by the Covid Pandemic. Warwick Center for the Arts Meaningful Art Exploration for Adults with Disabilities $2,000 WCFA will provide art programs for individuals with disabilities from local service agency, Spurwink, RI and develop a curriculum that can be used in future outreach to other underserved communities of disabled adults. Connecting for Children and Families Art, Equity & Youth Mental Health Afterschool Program at Woonsocket Middle Schools $2,900 From January-June 2022, we will offer the afterschool program “Art, Equity and Youth Mental Health,” to be taught by RISCA Roster artists and other artists/instructors, using art as a catalyst to engage middle schoolers in equity and youth mental health discussions. Hathaway Elementary School Cultural Engagement through Irish Dancing $4,840 Hathaway Elementary School plans to host Artist-in Residence Irish Dancer Kevin Doyle to work with our Kindergarten through Grade 4. The Physical Education and Music classes promote cross-curricular learning through movement, music, culture, collaboration, and expression in this yearly unit culminating with a professional from the community. San Miguel School of Providence Middle School Drumming Program $6,000 San Miguel School will provide students with access to drumming instruction. Every Friday, each grade will meet with award-winning drummer, Sidy Maïga, to not only learn the fundamentals of drumming but to discover how music is "the great communicator." Shea High School Recycled Runway $3,000 Shea Fashion will focus on using upcycled clothing to create garments for the 2022 spring fashion show. Students will use their creativity to alter gently used clothing to make a fashion statement with a smaller carbon footprint. Marina Ekelova Russian Nesting Doll (Matryoshka) Painting $3,000 This apprenticeship focuses on teaching the design and traditional painting techniques of the Matryoshka (Nesting Doll) and tells the story and culture behind this beautiful Russian artwork. Apprentices will learn the history of the Matryoshka, about her dress and customs, and how to paint, design, and polish professional pieces using traditional Russian techniques. Nancy Brown-Garcia Traditional Regalia Making with deerskin $3,000 The project will be executed from start to finish in traditional methods of sculpting leather into wearable deerskin traditional clothing. The student will participate in the entire process. Designing, Cutting, and sewing the leather. Then beadwork will be added at the level the student can procure. Titilola Martins Nigerian Tie Dye Textiles $3,000 Titilola Martins is a Nigerian Folk artist based in Providence, Rhode Island; throughout her life she has been exposed to various types of art practices. The focus of this project is preparing textiles with Adire Tie Dye, a handmade Nigerian textile process made from the Yoruba tribe using natural cassava paste.
