¡CityArts! offers free in-school, after-school, and summer arts education to the city’s 8 – 14 year old young artists. Founded in 1992, our mission has stayed the same: to ensure that Providence youth have equal access to performing and visual arts programs, unhindered by socio-economic barriers. 27 years later, ¡CityArts! has grown to become one of Providence’s leading multi-disciplinary community youth arts organizations. Our program has been recognized four times by the President’s Committee for Arts and Humanities as one of the nation’s top 50 youth arts after-school programs.
At ¡CityArts!, we believe an arts education is central to youth empowerment, community building, and social change. Our program uses art to help young artists grow. Our programs are overseen by 15 professional teaching artists, 40 volunteer teaching assistants, and an administrative staff—all of whom provide mentorship, leadership, and inspiration. In ¡CityArts! classes, youth express their ideas, celebrate their humanity, and embrace and share their diverse cultures, abilities, and perspectives. Our programs build empathy, and in turn, strengthen communities because they foster meaningful relationships between students, their peers, and their mentors.
