¡CityArts! is hiring a temporary, part-time Youth Programs Assistant

Summary

¡CityArts! offers free in-school, after-school, and summer arts education to the city’s 8 – 14 year old young artists. Founded in 1992, our mission has stayed the same: to ensure that Providence youth have equal access to performing and visual arts programs, unhindered by socio-economic barriers. 27 years later, ¡CityArts! has grown to become one of Providence’s leading multi-disciplinary community youth arts organizations. Our program has been recognized four times by the President’s Committee for Arts and Humanities as one of the nation’s top 50 youth arts after-school programs.

At ¡CityArts!, we believe an arts education is central to youth empowerment, community building, and social change. Our program uses art to help young artists grow. Our programs are overseen by 15 professional teaching artists, 40 volunteer teaching assistants, and an administrative staff—all of whom provide mentorship, leadership, and inspiration. In ¡CityArts! classes, youth express their ideas, celebrate their humanity, and embrace and share their diverse cultures, abilities, and perspectives. Our programs build empathy, and in turn, strengthen communities because they foster meaningful relationships between students, their peers, and their mentors.

¡CityArts! is seeking a youth program assistant to undertake a variety of administrative and program support tasks. You will work directly alongside ¡CityArts! program manager and executive director. Over the course of ¡CityArts! Fall session, you will assist in the planning and organizing of programs and activities as well as carry out important operational duties. Ideal candidates will be bilingual (English and Spanish), organized and detail-oriented, comfortable working with diverse team, and enjoy working with youth.

Salary & Benefits

This is a part-time temporary position (20 hours/week), paying an hourly wage of $15.00. There are no benefits associated with this position.

Work Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 1 pm – 6pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of ¡CityArts! program manager and executive director, the Youth Programs Assistant is responsible for supporting ¡CityArts! Fall 2019 Broad Street Studios Programs. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Scheduling 15+ volunteers to work in class during program hours;
  • Communicate with families via email and phone about upcoming events or program changes;
  • Support the planning and execution of all ¡CityArts! Fall Broad Street Studios programs;
  • Assist in recruitment and outreach to students;
  • Assist with the completion of various program reports as well as the collection of data to create statistical reports of student’s outcomes;
  • Support ¡CityArts! program manager in performing pre-program administrative tasks;
  • Supervise students and provide guidance, support, and encouragement during program hours;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have high school diploma or equivalent, graduate with an Associate’s Degree in a related field and/or related experience is preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong Google Doc and Sheets skills. Must have good organizational skills and ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people. Must demonstrate dependability, promptness and punctuality and a professional attitude at all times. Good oral and written communication skills are essential. Proficiency in design softwares (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign) a plus. Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus. Must pass a background security clearance.

Working Conditions

While performing duties of this job, the position will require that you work primarily in an office based setting that may require spending the majority of the day walking, standing, sitting, bending, and lifting. The applicant may be required to attend meetings and events and must have access to reliable transportation.
