The Safety Assistant is responsible for overseeing students using the sculpture studio, which includes: metal shop, wood shop, CNC router, and student work stations. This position ensures adherence to University safety protocols and helps to maintain a clean, well- organized shop environment with fully functioning equipment. In the event of an injury, this position is responsible for treating an injury using supplies in the first aid kit, or, calling for emergency services in the event of a more severe accident. The position requires giving corrective instructions and limited demonstrations on the proper use of tools, equipment, and supplies. The position is scheduled to work evenings and some weekends.
The ideal candidate is a highly alert and responsible individual, prepared to correct misuse of tools and able to respond to emergency situations quickly and in accordance with university protocol. The ideal candidate has insight and experience in arts practices. Though this is not an arts faculty position, the Safety Assistant works directly with students to help them realize visual art projects.
