What is Arts Talk? Arts Talk was developed 29 years ago to assist Rhode Island high school educators across all subject areas in implementing arts-integrated curriculum. The Arts Talk program partners are 3 of Rhode Island’s major cultural institutions (Trinity Repertory Company, RISD Museum, RI Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School), in collaboration with the RI State Council on the Arts.
In 2019 and 2020, the Nation celebrates and embarks on many civic milestones: the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment, the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII, the 2020 Census, 55th anniversary of the voting rights act, 55th anniversary of the civil rights act and of course the 2020 election.
This year, Arts Talk will focus on the theme of “Civic Engagement” and how to effectively integrate that larger theme into any subject matter content area through the arts, in its many forms.
ALL CONTENT AREA SPECIALISTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY. PLEASE NOTE: To accommodate as many schools as possible, teams are limited to 5 teachers per school. Preference for program acceptance will be given to schools that have NOT participated in this program in the last 4 years.
This year, we have finally expanded Arts Talk to include an Alumni Co-Hort. These program alums will serve as arts integration coaches to our newest district teams.
What is the Arts Talk Alumni Co-Hort? Open to educators who have successfully completed the RISCA “Arts Talk” professional training in the last 5 years, Arts Talk Alumni Co-Hort (ATAC) is a mentoring and peer learning program in arts integration.
ATAC participants will be assigned a district team from the current Arts Talk program and serve as an arts integration coach. You will be sharing arts integration best practices and providing problem solving support to ensure successful experiences for students.
You will be required to attend all 3 Arts Talk PD days and make at least one planning visit to your team’s school throughout the school year.
In exchange, you will receive $1000 in funding for an arts integration experience at your school for your students. You will also receive the same amount of PD credits as those in the Arts Talk program.
Deadline to apply is September 21st. See applications for further details.
